| Chrysanthemums, A Japanese Arrangement c.1895 oil on canvas ©Art Gallery of Ontario |
Mary Hiester Reid
While I was at the AGO there was one painting that caught my interest, which was the Chrysanthemums, by Mary Hiester Reid.
The way she is able to express emotion, realism, and unity is something I strive for.
I really liked this piece because of its serenity it had, to me art does not have to have bright colors to attract but instead the one hiding in the corner is the one that shines the most.
After I saw this piece I am more inspired to paint as I am not that good with paint. My definition of art still remains the same though, art is something that has a deeper meaning to it. This piece really made me thing that there is a back story to this setup and that it is something that is meaningful to Mary.
