The knowledge of one's heritage and culture is an important thing to many people. Growing up in Canada has made me realize how important Chinese culture is to me as it has shaped me into the person I am today as well as my inspiration in my art. By working with graphite and chalk pastel on Arches paper I have felt that traditional Chinese culture come alive through my art. Through Chinese traditional symbols, I hope to convey a message through my art.
Purpose?
The purpose of why I do art is because I feel the freedom that I don't have in any other subject. There is no right answer and no wrong answer in art because art is an expression of an individual. I feel that I become more of an individual as God has attended us to be instead of following crowed and being a clone.
How has the world greatly influenced you?
Through my journey of my life I have been influenced by many things in a good way and a bad way and by experiencing these things I have grown as a person. Spiritually, I feel as though I am on my own through my walk with God, or I am not looking in the right direction as I should.Politically through the Canadian government I feel an equality of people where we are not to look down or up to people simply we are all treated fairly. Though many people take this for granted I feel this as a blessing as I have heard many stories from my parents saying just because of my race they were on a lower level. I think this has greatly influenced me because I was able to be exposed to stories that tell of a not so perfect world, and this greatly changed my mindset as well as influenced my imagination.
Through social influences I think this has the greatest toll on me as for any other person. I worry and I know everybody else worries on how others see themselves. Though this used to affect me as I was younger I realized that why should I try so hard to be something I not when I can be me
Economically my parents have been very supportive on my journey as I have been able to blessed with the funding for art lessons that I hope will greatly improve my skills for my dream to become an architect.
“To be yourself in a world that is constantly trying to make you something else is the greatest accomplishment.”
